There was a time when the budget was balanced and they didn't spend money that they didn't have.

It seems that we humans are very slow learners indeed.

Youtube financial gurus spouting gibberish like "debt is a tool" adds another layer of confusion. The average person doesn't think debt is a problem.

It can be a tool, but it is a dangerous tool, especially if one dates Rosy Scenario, as is the case for most Republicans in Congress.

Wow, all this talk about debt without mentioning entitlements, even though they constitute the majority of the government's budget. I guess the problem is you can't blame them on "the rich".

I did allude to entitlements. Bill Clinton didn't run a true surplus because the cash flow surplus should have been equal to the Social Security surplus during the era when the Boomers were in their peak earning years.

As for the poverty program entitlements, bringing tariffs up to what we charge domestic labor might turn on welfare ghettos back into productive cities. This would help. Rule 1 is part of the plan to balance the budget.

And make everything much more expansive. Looked what happen with the supply chain crisis to get a sample of what this would do.

Having the country go Marxist is even more expensive last I checked.

Having to live in a McMansion community and commute 45 minutes to work is rather expensive as well.

Private school if you don't live in a McMansion community is also expensive. As long as we have that giant welfare cast breeding feral bastards, you have to go rather exclusive to find a good school. I'd rather pay more for my blue jeans and have a society where you don't have to be a rocket surgeon to support a family on a single income. Kids in a two parent household where Dad works are much cheaper to educate.

Socialized medicine since a huge chunk of the country cannot afford a doctor is also expensive.

The reality is that 30+ trillion dollars in deficit spending makes life more expensive. The remaining questions are who pays and how.

All of those things will become even more expansive if we were to just implement your tariff plan.

The problem is that domestic industry is overregulated to the point where it's practically impossible to manufacture anything profitably. We should probably address that problem first.

“ debt is fun to get into and unpleasant to pay off,” indeed. I have an acquaintance who has been through bankruptcy, run up cc debt again and now makes the minimum payment. I think we need a debt jubilee for the most usurious kinds of debt, for example student loans.

I'd go for student debt jubilee IF it came with a complete end to the student loan program. I don't want the federal government paying for anyone's college education save for ROTC scholarships.

Replace grants and loans for college with a universal one time unconditional Equality of Opportunity grant upon adulthood. This would do more to fight wokeness than any other single measure.

I agree and I’m not even sure about ROTC scholarships even though my brother benefited from one back in the day. If I had to choose now I’d never be a part of the military, and if you go into it now you’re pretty much a faggot. No young person I know has any desire to do so even though the government is trying to bribe them to do it.

That's the scary bit. The Enemy wants to purge the military of its Christians. Better to persecute us.
